Conservatives Axe Labour’s Greenbelt Housing Plans - We will fight Coventry overspill

Conservatives on Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council are fighting Labour Government plans to allow 3,500 overspill houses from Coventry to built in greenbelt land around Keresley.

They have agreed to challenge the recommendations of unelected, faceless bureaucrats acting on behalf of the Government that thousands of homes should be built against the wishes of local residents.

The action taken by local Conservatives, who have controlled the Council since May 2008, paves the way for scrapping the whole Regional Spatial Strategy for the area that has seen the Labour Government impose over 10,000 unwanted and undemocratic building targets on places like Bedworth, threatening sensitive areas like the Woodlands.

Former Soldier, Dan Byles, who is contesting the North Warwickshire Parliamentary seat, that includes Bedworth, at the General Election commented, "I am delighted that Conservatives on Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council are prepared to stand up to the government when it comes to these unwanted and imposed housing targets.

"This is a clear dividing line between the two Parties - Labour want to impose thousands of houses undemocratically; the Conservatives want to tear up these plans and give the power to make these decisions back to locally elected people.

"These houses haven't been debated locally. They haven't been voted on locally. And they don't have the support of local people."
