Rain Fails To Dampen Fete Spirits

Stormy weather over Bedworth failed to dampen spirits at Saturday's Arthur Alford House annual fete; residents simply moved the stalls indoors.

The poor weather didn't deter locals and local Conservative Counillors Damon Brown and Barry Lobbett, who turned out in large numbers to enjoy the fete  Those present were able to sample a wide variety of stalls including cream teas, cakes and the chance to win a signed Coventry City FC shirt as well as the usual raffles and tombolas. In addition, visitors had the chance to hurl wet sponges at local PCSO's - all in a good cause.

Highlight of the fete was a raffle to win a Help for Heroes teddy bear with all proceeds going to the Sgt Valentine Memorial Trust set up in memory of Bedworth Fusilier Sgt Simon Valentine who was killed in action almost a year ago. The teddy raffle, which was drawn by local Conservative Councillor Damon Brown, raised £160 and relative Carol Valentine attended to receive the procees of the raffle and pay tribute to the residents.

Commenting on the fundraising efforts of the Arthur Alford residents, Carol Valentine, said,

'I would like to thank everyone for their efforts. We have now raised around £20,000 in just over 10 months. Bedworth is the small town with a big heart.'

Bedworth Heath Councillor, Damon Brown, added,

'During the two years I have been the Councillor for Bedworth Heath the residents at Arthur Alford House have raised money for an impressive range of charities and it is typical of them to not let the weather spoiil their event. It is equally typical that they have raised a great sum of money to help a local charity like the Sgt Valentine Memorial Trust.'
