MP Dan Backs Baby Care Appeal

Dan Byles, MP for North Warwickshire has thrown his support behind a new appeal to help the most poorly members of his constituency. Dan was shown the renowned maternity and renal services at University Hospital as part of his first tour of the site. While there he was told about the UHCW Charity’s Baby Care Appeal to raise £225,000 to treat sick youngsters, help expectant mums and support grieving parents at the Trust.

He was also given reassurances over future partnership working between the Trust and George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton.

UHCW NHS Trust Chairman Philip Townshend said:” We are pleased to welcome Dan to the Trust to show him the care we provide. I am delighted that he was so interested and enthusiastic about the range of specialist services we provide at UHCW and we are grateful to him for his interest and support.

“I was also happy to reassure him that we have no ambitions whatsoever to remove services from the George Eliot Hospital.”

Andy Hardy, UHCW Chief Executive added: “The George Eliot is a key partner of ours and as such we are happy to continue to work in partnership to make sure that patients receive the right treatment in the right place to get the right results.”

Speaking about his visit, Dan said: “It was great to see the first class services on offer here as the maternity and renal services are provided for those not just in Coventry but North Warwickshire and beyond.

”I was happy to challenge the Trust over its plans for services in Nuneaton and was reassured by its willingness to work with other Trusts for the benefit of the patients.

“I fully support the Baby Care Appeal and may even get to the Hollyoaks Football match this weekend to see some of the ex-Coventry City stars play!”
