Securing The Future Of Post Offices In North Warwickshire And Bedworth

Dan Byles, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth welcomes new deal between Royal Mail and the Post Office.

Dan Byles, the MP for North Warwickshire & Bedworth, has welcomed news of a 10-year deal between Royal Mail and the Post Office which should secure the future of services for local people. The deal follows a series of measures introduced by the Government to protect Post Office services including additional funding, new local and national contracts, a successful piloting scheme to transform many local post offices and improvements in the services offered. Commenting, Dan said: "In opposition I campaigned hard against the previous the Labour Government's cuts to our Post Offices, which saw them close over 6,500 in a decade. Here in North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth Labour closed nine branches despite thousands of local people campaigning to save them. "I was proud to have played a part in that campaign. We toured the county gathering thousands of signatures, and we went to Downing Street to plead our case. Sadly, our arguments fell on deaf ears. Every Post Office lost represented another small chip at our local community and another neighbourhood with one less shop and one less local service. By 2010, Gordon Brown had closed down a third of the entire Post Office network. "The Coalition Governments announcement today means the future of the Post Office is now secured, guaranteeing this valuable service for millions of people.
