Lest We Forget
Local Councillors Honoured To Lay Wreaths On Behalf Of Dan Byles MP
Local Councillors in Atherstone, Bedworth and Coleshill have stepped in to represent MP Dan Byles at Armistice and Remembrance Day cermonies across North Warwickshire and Bedworth.
Dan Byles, the MP for North Warwickshire & Bedworth and a former
soldier, was unable to attend the Armistice Parade in Bedworth due to
the imminent birth of his and his wife's first child.
As MP, Dan would normally have layed a wreath on behalf of the people at Bedworth;s annual Armistice Day Parade and at Remembrance Day services at Atherstone and Coleshill local Councillors acted as deputies at this years ceremonies.
Councillor Damon Brown laid a wreath on behalf of Dan at the Bedworth Armistice Day Parade whilst in Atherstone and Coleshill Councillors Martin Davis and Peter Fowler respectively laid
poppy wreaths.
Dan said:
"I am extremely disappointed to be missing the parade in Bedworth for
the first time in several years. As a former soldier myself, this is a
time of year I take very seriously. It is not only a time to remember
all of the brave servicemen and women who have given their lives in
defence of freedom, it is also a time for those of us who have served or
have family who have served to reflect in a more personal way on the
impact war has had on individuals we might have known. I would like to
thank Marcus Jones, the MP for Nuneaton, for attending the parade in my
absence and Councillor Damon Brown for laying a wreath on my behalf."
Damon Brown added,
"I am honoured that Dan asked me to lay the poppy wreath on his behalf. I know Dan would have attended if he could because as a former soldier himself he attaches great importance to remembrance."
