Bedworth United Football Club Youth Players Get Kit Boost From Tesco Donation

Dan Byles, MP For North Warwickshire & Bedworth, Presents A Cheque To Youngsters At BUFC

The final part of a one thousand pound donation from the new Bedworth Tesco store has now been distributed, when local MP Dan Byles handed over a cheque for £400 to some of the youngest players at Bedworth United Football Club.   The cash forms part of a goodwill donation from the new supermarket, to support Bedworth town centre. Tesco asked Dan Byles to decide how the money should be spent. Dan suggested splitting the money between a local retail crime initiative to improve safety in the town, and kit for the junior players at Bedworth United Football Club to help tackle anti-social behaviour by giving youngsters psotive things to do. Dan visited the club to watch kids as young as four training and to hand over the cheque, which will be used to buy equipment for the young players. Speaking afterwards, he said:   “When Tesco asked for my advice on who to give this money to, I was keen that the young players at BUFC should benefit. Part of improving Bedworth Town Centre includes giving young people something positive to do in the evenings. That way they won’t feel the need to hang out in the town centre, which can be intimidating for some shoppers – aspecially elderly shoppers.   “Bedworth United Football Club offers fantastic opportunities for young kids to get involved with football, and to train from an early age. I was very impressed with the enthusiasm and skills of children I met, and I’m delighted that as a result of this donation they will now have more of the kit they need. I will continue to work with the club going forward, to ensure it remains a great asset for Bedworth.”
